Diplomatic Desk:
A colorful diplomatic reception was organized in the capital Dhaka on Sunday (June 7, 2026) evening at the initiative of the Italian Embassy in Dhaka to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic. Engr. Mohammad Shajibul-Al-Rajib, Editor of the national daily Daily Dhaka Dialogue, participated as an invited guest in the program.

Attending the program, he expressed his sincere gratitude to the Italian Embassy in Dhaka and the Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro. He said that such events play an important role in further strengthening mutual relations, diplomatic goodwill and cultural exchange between the two countries.

Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir was present as the chief guest of the program. In his speech, he deeply appreciated the historical friendship and solidarity between Bangladesh and Italy.
In his welcome speech, Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro recalled the historic referendum held on June 2, 1946, through which Italy adopted a democratic state system and established a republic.

He praised the recent development progress of Bangladesh and said that Italy is interested in continuing its cooperation in the country’s journey of modernization and economic growth. He emphasized on further expanding cooperation in various fields including trade, investment, migration, aviation, defense industry, satellite technology, disaster preparedness, cultural exchange and people-to-people contacts.

The establishment of the ‘Bangladeshi Italy Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BICCI)’ was announced at the event to strengthen Bangladesh-Italy trade relations. It was hoped that this organization, formed by the initiative of Italian and Bangladeshi small and medium entrepreneurs under the auspices of the Italian Embassy, would play a new role in expanding trade and commerce between the two countries.




The event concluded with a traditional Italian meal served by renowned Italian chef Cristiano Varrozzo.
Ambassadors, diplomats, senior Bangladesh government officials, business leaders, academics, cultural figures, and media representatives were present at the event.
