Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle paid a courtesy call on Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday (June 4, 2026).
During the meeting, both sides discussed various issues of mutual interest. At the time, the Information Minister highlighted the government’s various public welfare initiatives and said that social security and support programs including family cards and farmer cards are playing an important role in improving the quality of life of the common people.
The Minister also said that in the current world, due to the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) and social media, misinformation and disinformation are spreading rapidly, which has become a major challenge for society and the state. He emphasized the need for increasing public awareness, responsible dissemination of information and international cooperation to address such challenges.
