Today, Tuesday (June 2, 2026), a delegation led by UNICEF Bangladesh Social Policy Chief Stanley Guabuia paid a courtesy call on Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament of Bangladesh Barrister Kaiser Kamal, MP, at his office in the Parliament Building.
During the meeting, the Deputy Speaker said, “Although we all have children, we are not sufficiently aware of their protection.” He applauded UNICEF’s efforts in formulating child-friendly budgets and policies since before the formation of the parliamentary caucus.
Barrister Kaiser Kamal, MP, said that a fruitful discussion can be had by organizing a roundtable meeting with the members of parliament who will speak in the parliament on the formulation of child-friendly policies.
The UNICEF representative said that there is a need for pre-budget briefings and roundtable discussions as part of advocacy with members of parliament. Through this, children get the opportunity to directly interact with policymakers. He further said that it is very important not only to increase the budget allocation, but also to ensure transparency and accountability in its implementation.
During the meeting, child rights, child-friendly policy formulation, increase in budget allocation, social protection and various bilateral cooperation issues were discussed.
At that time, Social Policy and Economic Specialist Md. Ashiq Iqbal, Communication Specialist Faria Selim, Communication Officer Karishma Ahmed and relevant officials of the National Parliament Secretariat were present as members of the UNICEF delegation.
