Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan said that people of different languages and ethnicities of the Chittagong Hill Tracts are making an important contribution to the development of the country by promoting their own culture, language, history and traditions. The hill people are enriching Chittagong through their talent, labor and skills.
The minister said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the Baisuk, Shangrai, Biju, Bishu Bihu, Changkran, Changlan and Pata Festival Reunion-2026 organized by engineer families of different ethnic groups of the Chittagong Hill Tracts living in Chittagong at the Engineers Institution Auditorium in Chittagong city on Saturday (May 9, 2026).
The presence and participation of people speaking different languages of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in this event organized in Chittagong presented a unique reflection of diversity. The minister said to the engineers, “Do not limit your identity, tradition and culture to yourself but spread it to everyone in the country. Dedicate your innovations and all development work to the welfare of the people of the country and the prosperity of the country.”
The minister also mentioned that various professionals including engineers and doctors are playing an active role in the overall development of Chittagong. He said, “Our tradition and culture are our pride. We are Bangladeshis. The people of the hill tribes have not forgotten their own tradition, but rather are enriching the tradition of Bangladesh by preserving and preserving it.”
In his speech, the minister mentioned the unity of the hill people who believe in Bangladeshi nationalism and said that the BNP government has recognized the identity and rights of the different ethnicities of the Chittagong Hill Tracts and is working for the development of all communities by believing in Bangladeshi nationalism.
The Minister further said that the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs will always stand by the people of the hilly region and provide all kinds of cooperation. He strongly stated that the people of the hilly region are an integral part of Bangladesh.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain was present as the ‘Guest of Honor’ at the event presided over by Engineer Pru Maung Rakhine. People of different classes and professions, hill engineers, government and private officials and journalists of print and electronic media, dressed in their own traditional costumes of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, were present at the event.
