Home Minister seeks German assistance in police modernization

Diplomatic Desk:

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed met with German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Rudiger Lotz, Ph.D., in his office at the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday (May 7, 2026) afternoon.

The meeting discussed various issues related to mutual interests, including further strengthening bilateral relations through increased mutual cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister said that Germany is one of the development partners of Bangladesh. He said that the country is cooperating with Bangladesh in various sectors including renewable energy, combating climate change, textile or ready-made garment industry, and technical and vocational education. He sought Germany’s cooperation in capacity building, modernization of the Bangladesh Police Force, and providing training and technical assistance in maintaining law and order. The Ambassador assured of increasing bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh in various sectors and said that the mutual relations between the two countries will be elevated to a higher level in the near future.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister welcomed the Ambassador. The Ambassador expressed his sincere congratulations to the Minister for assuming the important responsibility in the new portfolio.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, Deputy Secretary of Political-1 Branch Begum Minara Nazmin, Deputy Secretary of Immigration-3 Branch Mohammad Abul Kalam, among others, were present in the meeting.
