Desk Report:
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that the government will not tolerate any kind of artificial crisis or manipulation in the market.
The minister said this in response to questions from journalists after the meeting of the Task Force Committee on Reviewing Commodity Prices and Market Situation in the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday (April 21, 2026).
The Commerce Minister said that the current global situation, especially the conflict in the Middle East, has put pressure on the energy supply system. However, the government is closely monitoring the issue and the import situation is still stable.
In response to a question regarding the supply of soybean oil, the minister said that although the supply of bottled oil is somewhat less, there is adequate supply of open oil. In this case, the government is keeping an eye on the issue of charging additional prices beyond the fixed price and necessary measures will be taken in this regard.
In response to another question on inflation, Khandaker Muktadir said that unreasonable price increases or creating artificial crises are not acceptable in any way. He told the traders that the market cannot be influenced through speculation. Prices should be determined by considering the actual impact of the increase in fuel prices.
The minister urged traders and all concerned parties to have faith in the government and said that we want to move towards a permanent pricing system so that the market remains more stable in the future.
The meeting was attended by Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) of the Ministry of Commerce, Md. Abdur Rahim Khan and other concerned officials.
