State Minister for Food and Public Administration expresses satisfaction over timely arrival of over 700,000 tonnes of wheat from the US

Diplomatic Desk:

A US delegation led by Brent T. Christensen, posted in Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on State Minister in charge of the Ministry of Food and Public Administration, Md. Abdul Bari MP, on Tuesday (April 21, 2026). The meeting was held at the office of the Ministry of Food.

The State Minister welcomed the US delegation during the meeting. During the meeting, various issues of mutual interest of the two countries, including wheat import from the US, were discussed.

The State Minister said that Bangladesh has already started wheat import activities from the US on a government-to-government (G-to-G) basis. More than 700,000 metric tonnes of wheat have been imported from the US in the 2025-26 fiscal year. He expressed satisfaction with the timely arrival of the wheat consignment in the country despite global challenges and thanked all concerned.

Ambassador Brent T. Christensen thanked the State Minister and expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of the people and the increase in trade.

Also present at the meeting were US Embassy Political Economic Counselor Eric Geelan, Economic Officer Richard Rasmussen, Food Secretary Md. Firoz Sarkar and relevant officials of the ministry.
