Government dedicates Bangla 1433 to country’s agricultural economy: Information and Broadcasting Minister

Desk Report:

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that Pahela Boishakh is not just a matter of theoretical social analysis, but rather it is a gathering of Bengalis’ joy and non-communal spirit. He termed Banga 1433 as a promising year and said that the BNB government will work tirelessly to develop Bangladesh’s agriculture-based economy throughout the coming year.

The minister said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) to celebrate Bangla New Year 1433.

Stating that there is no place for religion, caste or discrimination in the festival of Pahela Boishakh, the minister said, Pahela Boishakh is for the festival, for joy. There will be no religion, no discrimination in this joy.

He said that the main purpose of the Bangla New Year structure, which was created in a historical context by combining the Hijri year and the Gregorian calendar, was to ensure the economic benefits of Bengali agriculture and farmers.

Referring to the farmer-friendly policy of the current government, Zahir Uddin Swapan said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman celebrated the New Year directly with farmers in Tangail and distributed ‘farmer cards’ there.

The Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Advisor Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Kaneez Maula and Director General of the Shilpakala Academy Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed spoke at the event.
