Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has called for involving the young generation in tackling the growing environmental and climate crisis in the world. The Information Minister made this call as the chief guest at the inauguration of the two-day ‘Green Energy Olympiad 2026’ at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday (April 8, 2026).
The Information Minister said that environmental problems are such a global challenge that many times people cannot fully understand before the problem is affected. Therefore, creating awareness on this issue and spreading it to the next generation is the need of the hour.
He also said that the environmental crisis is not like other short-term development problems; its impact is long-term and far-reaching. In this regard, people’s awareness and behavioral change are very important. He emphasized on developing applicable knowledge among the youth to ensure sustainable lifestyles, responsible urbanization and development in harmony with nature.
Stating that the global energy crisis and international political situation are having a direct impact on the environment and economy, the Information Minister emphasized the need to coordinate education and research with the environment, politics, and economy to acquire practical and applicable knowledge.
