Bangladesh-Turkey meeting held in Ankara to deepen bilateral relations

An important bilateral meeting was held between the foreign ministers of Turkey and Bangladesh on Saturday (March 14, 2026) evening at the Turkish Foreign Ministry in Ankara. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman participated in the meeting. Humayun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, was present at the time.

This is the first bilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries after the formation of the newly elected government in Bangladesh.

The meeting discussed the overall issues of bilateral relations between Türkiye and Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of further increasing Turkish investment in Bangladesh and also highlighted the possibility of exporting Bangladeshi skilled human resources to Turkey.

After the meeting, the foreign ministers of the two countries participated in a joint press briefing. There, they reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the long-standing friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries. They also exchanged views on various regional and international issues and expressed their commitment to work together, especially in efforts to establish peace in Gaza.

During the bilateral meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Diplomacy Academy of Turkey and the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh to enhance institutional cooperation in diplomatic training and capacity building.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hosted an iftar and working dinner in honor of the Bangladesh delegation. During this time, discussions continued on various cooperative issues and issues of mutual interest between the two countries.

Turkey reiterated its commitment to maintaining friendly and brotherly relations with Bangladesh in the context of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries. At the same time, Turkey expressed its full support for Bangladesh’s candidacy for the presidency of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session.
