Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, PSC, G, Defense Advisor to the Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, visited the Ministry of Defense in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka on Monday (February 23, 2026).
Upon reaching the ministry, Defense Secretary Md. Ashraf Uddin welcomed the advisor. All the officers and employees of the Ministry of Defense were present at the time.
During the visit, the Defense Secretary briefed the advisor about the ongoing activities, notable achievements and future work plans of the ministry. Later, the advisor delivered a directional speech to the officers and employees present.
In his speech, he said that the government is determined to implement the expansion and modernization programs of the armed forces. He expressed his hope that the current government will work relentlessly to further strengthen the country’s defense system. At the same time, he called on all concerned to fulfill their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication in implementing the government’s election pledge.
He also expressed hope that the ministry will work tirelessly to build an independent, sovereign, modern and developed Bangladesh by increasing the capacity of military and civilian institutions under the Ministry of Defense.
At the end of his speech, the advisor exchanged views with the officials of the Ministry of Defense on various official matters.
