41 DU Students Awarded Centennial Scholarships

A total of 41 meritorious students from various departments of the Faculty of Arts at Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded the “Faculty of Arts Centennial Trust Fund Scholarship.” DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan attended the award ceremony as the chief guest, distributing scholarship checks to the recipients on Monday (11 November, 2024) in the conference room of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building.

The ceremony was presided over by DU Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, with Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed attending as special guests. Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, delivered the welcome speech, and Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed hosted the event. Former deans of the Faculty of Arts, department chairs, faculty members, and students were also present.

In his speech, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan congratulated the scholarship recipients, noting that the scholarship is a recognition of their academic excellence and will further encourage them in their studies. He emphasized that the history of the Faculty of Arts is deeply intertwined with the history of Dhaka University, as well as the history of the nation. He encouraged the students to keep the faculty’s proud legacy in mind and to contribute to society.

The scholarship recipients include:

  • Bangla Department: Mohibullah Khan Rabbi, Sharmin Shanti, and Kobita Akter Mim
  • English Department: Faria Akter Fima, Sumona Khatun, and Naimur Rahman
  • Arabic Department: Arifur Rahman, Imran Hossain, and Muntasir Ahmad Muaz
  • Persian Language and Literature Department: Brishti Akter and Monirul Sheikh
  • Urdu Department: Monisha Khatun and Habibullah Muskan
  • Sanskrit Department: Asmaul Hosna Asha and Mahmudul Hasan
  • Pali and Buddhist Studies Department: Brishti Barua and Konika Rani Roy
  • History Department: Hasibur Rahman Shuvo, Abdus Salam, and Samia Tasnim Suvi
  • Philosophy Department: Antora Dey, Faisal Ahmed Bhuiyan, and Imam Hossain
  • Islamic Studies Department: Cynthia Parvin, Pinky Begum, and Hridoy Bepari
  • Islamic History and Culture Department: Shahjadi Ratna, Akkas Ali Sabid, and Sultan Ahmed
  • Information Science and Library Management Department: Nazim Uddin and Swapna Akter
  • Theatre and Performance Studies Department: Tahiya Tasnim and Joya Costa
  • Linguistics Department: Nusrat Jahan and Saurav Basu
  • Music Department: Arpita Patra Malti and Nurejannat Afris
  • World Religions and Culture Department: Atray Bhattacharya Hiya and Farhana Akter
  • Dance Department: Amina Akhter and Sabrina Mehjabin Parisha.

This scholarship will serve as an incentive for these students to excel further in their studies and contribute positively to society.
