German Ambassador to Dhaka gives special message in ‘Special January, 2026 Edition’ of “Business in Bangladesh Newsletter” on the occasion of English New Year

German Ambassador to Dhaka gives special message in ‘Special January, 2026 Edition’ of “Business in Bangladesh Newsletter” on the occasion of English New Year.

As 2026 dawns upon us, I extend my warmest greetings to the readers of Business in Bangladesh and to the dynamic business community in this country.

Germany and Bangladesh continue to enjoy a strong, resilient, and forward-looking partnership. Over the years, our cooperation has advanced across multiple areas—from trade and investment to climate resilience, green energy, and responsible supply chains. German companies continue to monitor developments in Bangladesh with interest, recognising the country’s economic potential while also noting that a more stable and predictable business environment will be essential for strengthening long-term investment confidence.

As Bangladesh prepares for LDC graduation, the coming years will be pivotal. Germany stands firmly committed to standing alongside Bangladesh through this transition. Securing GSP+ status is ultimately in Bangladesh’s own long-term interest, as it will help safeguard market access and enhance the country’s economic transformation. Progress in areas such as labour rights, environmental standards, good governance, and export diversification will be important elements of this process.

Germany is ready to work closely with Bangladesh on this path, engaging constructively with government institutions, businesses, and civil society. Export diversification will also be central to Bangladesh’s global competitiveness in the long-term. Building stronger capacities in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, leather goods and sustainable goods will help the economy to adapt and thrive amid an increasingly fast-paced and evolving global landscape. The EU Business Forum in 2026 will provide for all stakeholders a great opportunity to establish direct contact and exchange experiences.

Germany will continue to support initiatives that enhance trade facilitation, deepen private-sector collaboration, and foster a more predictable, transparent, and investment-friendly business environment. Our objective is to nurture a landscape in which German and Bangladeshi enterprises can collaborate, innovate, and grow in a manner that is sustainable, responsible, and future-oriented.

As Bangladesh moves confidently toward becoming an upper-middle-income country, Germany remains a reliable partner—working together to advance ongoing reforms, promote sustainable economic development, and build resilient supply chains that benefit communities in both countries.
I wish everyone a prosperous and inspiring 2026.
