Tarique Rahman emphasizes language and skill training to increase status and income abroad

Editor, Engr. Mohammad Shajibul-Al-Rajib:

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman said that it is important to provide language and job-based training to expatriates before going abroad for work. He also commented that expatriates cannot achieve the desired success if sent abroad without proper preparation.

He made these remarks regarding expatriates during an exchange of views with editors and journalists of national-level media outlets at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Sheraton in Banani, the capital, on Saturday (January 10, 2026).

Tarique Rahman said, “If those from our country who are going abroad for work can be taught the language of that country and if they can be trained on the work they are going to do, then they can go abroad and work more efficiently.”

He said that expatriates not only improve their own standard of living, but also make an important contribution to the country’s economy. Through remittances, the country’s foreign exchange reserves are strengthened and the wheels of the national economy are kept running. Therefore, transforming expatriates into skilled human resources should be one of the main responsibilities of the state, he commented.

The BNP chairman also said that if skilled expatriates can be created in a planned manner, both their status and income abroad will increase. At the same time, dependence on illegal brokers will decrease and various harassments and frauds that occur with expatriates will also decrease.

Tarique Rahman said, “We want expatriates to be known not only as workers but also as skilled workers when they go abroad. This will not only increase their self-esteem, but also brighten the image of the country.”

At the meeting, he said that if BNP comes to power in the future, a comprehensive and timely policy will be formulated regarding the welfare, security and employment of expatriates.

Journalist Rezaul Karim Rony, Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman, The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, Jugantor Editor Abdul Hai Sikder, Kaler Kantho Editor Hasan Hafiz, bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufiq Imroz Khalidi and editors of various media outlets spoke at the meeting.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Standing Committee members and senior party leaders were present at the event.
