ILO Director-General pays courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Advisor

International Labour Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert F. Hongbo paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir at a hotel in the capital on Sunday (July 19, 2026) evening.

At the beginning of the meeting, the ILO Director-General extended his sincere congratulations on Bangladesh’s election as the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He expressed hope that cooperation with the ILO will be further strengthened during Bangladesh’s presidency.

The discussions focused on recent progress in Bangladesh’s labor sector, the situation of child labor, labor law and institutional reforms, ensuring the rights and welfare of migrant workers, and safe and regular migration.

The Foreign Affairs Advisor sought the ILO’s continued cooperation in ensuring the rights, security, and welfare of Bangladeshi migrant workers. At the same time, he called for continued ILO technical assistance in enhancing institutional capacity, skill development and implementation of international labor standards in the labor sector.

The ILO Director-General appreciated the recent progress in the labor sector of Bangladesh and the government’s initiatives to reduce child labor. He assured that ILO’s cooperation in this sector will continue in the future as well.
