A delegation from the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The meeting was held at the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).
The meeting discussed in detail the current situation of the country’s housing industry, planned urbanization, various problems arising in the implementation of Detailed Area Plan (DAP), and the long-term development of the housing sector.
The REHAB delegation demanded a reduction in the existing fees for land, plot and flat registration to a reasonable level. At the same time, the need to completely digitize government services related to the housing sector was also highlighted.
The delegation members proposed to increase the floor area ratio (FAR) in a rational manner to ensure maximum utilization of limited land in the capital and to encourage vertical urbanization.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that the housing industry has an important contribution to the country’s economy. The development of this sector is very important to accelerate the growth of the national economy.
He said that the government is working to ensure a transparent, accountable and investment-friendly environment for the housing industry. At the same time, the government is also giving importance to the development of the housing sector in a planned, sustainable and corruption-free manner.
The Prime Minister said that various reform steps have already been taken to stop irregularities and corruption in the housing sector. More effective initiatives will be taken in this regard in the future.
He also said that the country’s urbanization cannot be limited to the capital alone. Other regions of the country should also be developed in a planned manner with equal importance. He also emphasized on conducting development activities while protecting agricultural land.
