345 more Bangladeshis return home from Libya

345 Bangladeshis stranded in Libya were brought back home on Friday (December 19, 2025). They arrived in Bangladesh on two chartered flights of Buraq Air between 9:30 am and 10:30 am. The repatriation process was completed through the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and in cooperation with the Libyan government and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Most of the repatriated Bangladeshis had entered Libya with the instigation and cooperation of human traffickers with the aim of illegally reaching Europe by sea. Many of them have been allegedly abducted and tortured in Libya at various times.

Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the relevant ministries and the International Organization for Migration welcomed the repatriated Bangladeshis at the airport. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested them to share their harrowing experience with everyone possible to raise public awareness. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has provided travel expenses, some food items and first aid to each repatriated person.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the International Organization for Migration are working together to ensure the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi citizens detained in various detention centers in Libya.
