This election is an election to save the country: Chief Adviser

Instructing the district administrators to perform their duties with 100% honesty, impartiality and dedication in the upcoming elections and referendum, Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus said that this election is not a traditional election; rather, it is an election to save the country.

Today, Monday (November 17, 2025), Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus addressed the administrators of 64 districts, including 50 newly appointed district administrators, at the Chief Advisor’s office.

Stating that the upcoming election is not just an election to form a five-year government; rather, it is going to be an even more significant election as it includes a referendum, the Chief Advisor said, “This is a completely different election. The nation has seen many farcical elections, we have to play our role in overcoming that memory.”

“This is a post-people’s uprising election; this election is an election to complete the people’s uprising. The course of the century will be determined for the nation through this election,” said the Chief Advisor.

Stating that the role of the District Commissioners in this election is very important, he said that there is no chance of failure in any way. The nation will be reborn through this election and the District Commissioners will play the role of midwives.

Addressing the District Commissioners, the Chief Advisor said, “You will learn everything you need to know. The election must be festive and peaceful at the same time.”

He said that it should be remembered that there are a large number of young and female voters who are eligible to vote but have not been able to exercise their right to vote for the last 15 years.

He said that international observers are already showing deep enthusiasm for the upcoming election. They want to see how the election is going to be.

The chief advisor said, “Making this election meaningful is our commitment to the people’s uprising. This election is a big campaign, we have to win this campaign.”

He said, “We have to win this fight to survive as an independent nation.”

The meeting, moderated by Cabinet Division Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, was also attended by Planning Advisor Wahiduddin Mahmud, Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan and Law Advisor Professor Asif Nazrul.

Among the field administration officials, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque and Bogra Deputy Commissioner Md. Taufiqur Rahman spoke at the event.
