Pakistan signs MoU with BSTI to boost halal exports

A MoU has been signed between Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, the national standard setting and regulatory body of Bangladesh, and Pakistan Halal Authority (PHA), the halal affairs body of Pakistan. The MoU was signed with the priority of cooperation between the two countries in formulating national standards.

The MoU was signed at the 9th meeting of the Bangladesh-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission at the NEC Conference Room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Monday (October 27). Finance Advisor Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed led the meeting on behalf of Bangladesh and Petroleum Minister Ali Parvez Malik led the meeting on behalf of Pakistan.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Maksura Noor NDC signed the MoU on behalf of Bangladesh and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider signed the MoU on behalf of Pakistan.

As a result of the signing of this MoU, BSTI-approved halal products can be exported to Pakistan. If they have a BSTI halal certificate, they will enter Pakistan without inspection. On the other hand, if they have a Pakistan Halal Authority (PHA) certificate, they will also enter Bangladesh without inspection. This is an effort to strengthen trade relations between the two countries. As a result, the export of halal products between Bangladesh and Pakistan will facilitate trade and further strengthen bilateral trade relations.

At the event, Saleh Uddin Ahmed said that various issues have gained importance in improving relations between the two countries. In addition, efforts are being made to further revive SAARC. He hopes that the relations between the people of the two countries will also improve in this meeting.

Ali Parvez Malik said that an agreement has been signed with BSTI on halal products. Where it is said that any halal product approved by BSTI can be exported to Pakistan and Pakistan will accept it. On the other hand, Bangladesh will accept the halal certificate issued by Pakistan’s PHA.
