309 Bangladeshis Return from Libya

With the assistance of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Government of Libya, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a total of 309 Bangladeshi nationals who voluntarily expressed their wish to return home from Tripoli and nearby regions of Libya arrived in Dhaka on Friday (24 October, 2025).

They were brought back on a chartered flight operated by Fly Oya International that landed at around 9 a.m. The returnees had been residing irregularly in Libya.

Most of these Bangladeshis had entered Libya with the intention of reaching Europe through irregular sea routes, often being lured and facilitated by human traffickers. Many of them had also faced abduction and abuse during their stay in Libya.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant ministries, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) welcomed the returnees at the airport. To raise public awareness, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested the returnees to share their distressing experiences with others.

Each returnee received travel allowances, some food items, and primary medical assistance from the IOM upon arrival.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the IOM continue to work together to ensure the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi nationals detained in various detention centers across Libya.
