Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin visited the fire scene at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital on Saturday (October 18, 2025) evening. After the inspection, he told reporters that maximum efforts are being made to quickly resume flight operations at the airport.
He said, “We will reopen the airport as soon as possible.” Bashir Uddin said that flight operations are currently temporarily suspended. However, authorities are trying to resume operations by tonight if possible.
He also said, “The fire has now been largely brought under control with the coordinated efforts of the fire service, armed forces and related organizations. Currently, everyone is working together to restore normal operations at the airport.”
The advisor said that the government’s immediate goal is to quickly and orderly resume airport operations. Work is underway in close consultation with all stakeholders to ensure the safety and efficiency of the airport.
Calling for prayers from the countrymen, Sheikh Bashir Uddin said, “We seek the mercy of Allah Almighty so that the situation can be normalized quickly. We are trying our best to quickly restore the airport to full operational capacity.”
