Dhaka University celebrates World Tourism Day with colorful events

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management of Dhaka University celebrated World Tourism Day-2025. This year, the theme of the day was “Tourism for Sustainable Transformation”. Various events including colorful rallies, discussions and seminars were held on the campus around the day.

The day was officially inaugurated as the chief guest at the premises of the Faculty of Business Studies by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan. He led the rally and emphasized on promoting the tourism industry by respecting sustainable development and nature.

Later, the seminar organized at the Multipurpose Conference Hall was presided over by the Chairman of the department, Professor Dr. Md. Shariful Alam Khandaker. The discussion was addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Professor Dr. Mahmud Osman Imam, Presidium Member of the Center for Tourism Studies Jabed Ahmed, Chairman of Chuti Resort and Chuti Group Advocate Mostafa Mahmud Arifi and Convener of the seminar Professor Dr. Mohammad Badruzzaman Bhuiyan.

The keynote address was presented by Associate Professor Dr. Saud Ahmed. The program was moderated by Shanti Chakma, a 16th batch student of the department.

In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor said, “Tourism is not just a part of the economy; it is a means of creating respectful relationships with humanity, culture and nature. Coordination between industry and academia must be further enhanced for sustainable development.”
