176 Bangladeshis willing to repatriate return from Libya

With the cooperation of the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration, 176 Bangladeshis willing to repatriate voluntarily from Tripoli and surrounding areas of Libya returned today (September 18, 2025). They were brought back to Bangladesh in a Buraq Air flight in the morning. They were staying in Libya irregularly.

Most of the repatriated Bangladeshis entered Libya with the instigation and cooperation of human traffickers with the intention of illegally traveling to Europe by sea. Many of them were abducted and tortured in Libya at different times. Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the concerned ministries and the International Organization for Migration welcomed the repatriated Bangladeshi citizens at the airport. At this time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested them to share their harrowing experience with everyone to raise public awareness. The International Organization for Migration provided travel expenses, some food items, first aid and, if necessary, temporary accommodation to each of the repatriated people.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the International Organization for Migration are working together to arrange for the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi citizens detained in various detention centers in Libya.
