100% of domestic animals have been sacrificed, 93.67 million animals have been sacrificed in the country: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said that a total of 93.67 million cattle have been sacrificed in the country on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Adha 2026. This year, the total demand for sacrificial animals was 11.6 million. 334. In contrast, the availability of sacrificial animals in the country was 12.3 million. 840. After the sacrifice, there is a surplus of 29.66 million. 422 animals in the country. It has been possible to meet 100% of the sacrificial demand this year too through animals produced by domestic farmers.

He said this at a press briefing organized at the conference room of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock today, Thursday (June 4, 2026). The briefing was organized to inform about the initial count of cattle sacrificed nationwide and the activities taken by the government.

The State Minister said that according to the initial information received from the eight divisions under the Department of Livestock, the total number of animals sacrificed this year is 93 lakh 67 thousand 418. Of these, 48 lakh 64 thousand 158 are cows and buffaloes, 45 lakh 2 thousand 233 are goats and sheep and 1 thousand 27 are other animals. Division-wise, the highest number of animals were sacrificed in Dhaka division and the second highest number of animals were sacrificed in Rajshahi division. In addition, the number of animals sacrificed this year has increased by 2 lakh 31 thousand 418 compared to last year.

He said that the maximum number of animals sacrificed in Dhaka division was 23 lakh 51 thousand 666. The second highest number of animals sacrificed in Rajshahi division was 23 lakh 42 thousand 869. The Chittagong division sacrificed 17 lakh 34 thousand 25 animals. Apart from this, 10 lakh 50 thousand 554 animals were sacrificed in Rangpur division, 8 lakh 46 thousand 50 in Khulna division, 4 lakh 160 in Barisal division, 3 lakh 67 thousand 818 in Mymensingh division and 2 lakh 74 thousand 321 in Sylhet division.

He also said that the potential demand for sacrificial animals in 2025 was 1 crore 3 lakh 79 thousand 202 and the availability was 1 crore 2 lakh 47 thousand 337. Last year, a total of 91 lakh 36 thousand animals were sacrificed in the country and the surplus was 33 lakh 11 thousand 337 animals. Accordingly, 2 lakh 31 thousand 418 more animals were sacrificed this year compared to last year.

The State Minister said that due to the government’s timely policy support, the hard work of farmers and the investment of entrepreneurs, the livestock sector has reached a strong and self-reliant position today. The government is working to implement modern technology and farmer-friendly policies to further strengthen the rural economy and ensure sustainable development of the livestock sector.

Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md. Delwar Hossain, Director General of the Department of Livestock Md. Shahzaman Khan and senior officials of the ministry were present at the time.
