Young Leadership Paves the Way for a New Democratic Journey: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul

At the inaugural ceremony of the BNP’s national programme titled “Plan to Rebuild the Nation,” held on Sunday (7 December) at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in Dhaka, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that, after 15 years, a new opportunity has emerged to restore democracy in the country. However, he cautioned that various obstacles and misinformation campaigns may challenge this path, urging everyone to remain vigilant.

Mirza Fakhrul stated, “There is a continuous propaganda campaign against the BNP. Particularly in the arena of cyber warfare, our organisations must be well-prepared. If we fail to win the cyber battle, we will face significant political setbacks.” He called upon the youth to remain especially alert in this regard.

Addressing the attempts to create religious division, he said, “A deep divide is being attempted in Bangladesh. We are a religious people, but we do not believe in using religion to divide the state or society. ‘Bangladesh First’ must be the guiding principle.” He expressed hope that the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal would act as the vanguard in countering these divisive attempts.

Speaking about the health of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The guardian of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia, is now undergoing treatment at the hospital. She has never bowed to injustice. Local and foreign specialists are treating her, and we believe she will recover soon by the prayers of the nation.”

Referring to the impact of the July 24 movement, he commented, “It has brought a profound shift in the mindset of the people, especially the youth. Today, the country wants change—in governance, in thought, in the justice system, in education, and in all spheres. The old state structure is no longer effective. Structural transformation is essential to build a new Bangladesh.”

The programme was presided over by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, while Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel conducted the session. Among others present were Dhaka District BNP General Secretary Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Aminul Haque, BNP Media Cell Convener Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, and other senior leaders.

BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman addressed the event virtually from London as the chief guest.
