World Habitat Day will be celebrated on October 6, 2025. The theme of this year’s World Habitat Day is “Urban Crisis Response” which translates to “Planned Development, Response to Urban Problems.”
The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has taken up various programs to celebrate the day in a colorful manner. A discussion program has been organized on the occasion of ‘World Habitat Day 2025’ at the Hall of Fame of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka at 10:00 am on October 6, 2025.
Mr. Adilur Rahman Khan, Honorable Advisor to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and the Ministry of Industries; Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Honorable Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources; and Ms. Gwen Lewis, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, will be present at the discussion program on ‘World Habitat Day.’
An exhibition will be held on the occasion of ‘World Habitat Day 2025’ at the lobby of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center on October 6 and 7, 2025. In this, various departments and organizations under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, including REHAB, RAJUK, Architecture, Urban Planning, and various organizations will display products and services in the housing and construction sector.
The seminar has been organized in line with the theme of World Habitat Day and the issue of housing for all. Where three papers titled Resilient Community Oasis: Inclusive Public Open Spaces for Earthquake Preparedness by Dr. Sudipti Biswas, Professor, MIST; An Assessment of Informal Settlement and Low-Cost Housing Intiatives in Bangladesh: Failures. Success, Factors and a Framework for Sustainable Urban Development by Ms. Uswatun Mahera Khushi, Board Member, Jatiyo Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam University and Journey toward housing solutions amid the urban crisis by Country Director, Habitat for Humanity will be presented.
A rally has been organized on the morning of October 6 to mark the day. The rally will start from Zia Udyan at 8.30 am and end at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center. The day will be celebrated at all divisions and district levels. On the occasion of this day, souvenirs will be released, special talk shows will be broadcast on television and radio, and banners, posters and festoons will be placed at important places.
It is worth noting that the United Nations decided to observe World Habitat Day in 1985 to raise awareness about safe cities and quality housing around the world, and the day has been celebrated worldwide since 1986.
