Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroza Khanam, MP, has called on the four sectors of Travel, Tourism, Aviation and Hospitality to come forward in a coordinated manner to elevate the country’s tourism sector to international standards.
She made this call as the chief guest at the Launching Ceremony of the Travel and Tourism Development Center organized at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka today, Saturday (August 8, 2026) at 4 pm.
The minister said that under the guidance of the current government, Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government is working to take the country’s tourism sector to international standards. To achieve this goal, everyone involved in the Travel, Tourism, Aviation and Hospitality sectors must come forward together. She said that today’s platform will play an important and effective role as a platform for the relevant stakeholders to work together.
Highlighting the economic potential of the tourism sector, the minister said that currently the contribution of the tourism sector to the country’s GDP is about 3 percent. The government wants to increase this contribution to 6-7 percent.
He said that the private sector stakeholders should come forward in a coordinated manner and play an effective role in the sustainable development and growth of the country’s tourism sector. In this regard, the government is always ready to provide policy support and necessary support. He called on the leaders of the tourism sector and the concerned private sector stakeholders present to come forward actively for the development of the country’s tourism.
The minister further said that there has been no significant development in the country’s tourism sector in the last 17 years. The present government is taking necessary initiatives to utilize the development and potential of the tourism sector.
He expressed hope that with the cooperation and joint efforts of all stakeholders in the tourism sector, it will be possible to establish Bangladesh as an international tourism destination.
Leaders from different levels of the tourism sector, concerned stakeholders and invited guests were present at the event.
