Mayor Mujibur Rahman, the BNP-nominated sheaf of rice candidate for Gazipur-1 constituency, delivered a speech as the main speaker at the prayer and discussion meeting organized in memory of former Prime Minister, uncompromising leader and mother of democracy Begum Khaleda Zia.

At the prayer meeting organized by Kaliakoir Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations at 6 pm on Saturday (January 3, 2026), he said, “At the beginning of my speech, I pray for the forgiveness of the soul of our national leader Begum Khaleda Zia. May Allah Almighty forgive all the intentional and unintentional mistakes in her life.”

Mujibur Rahman said, Begum Khaleda Zia was an uncompromising leader on the issue of democracy. The autocratic government has imprisoned her without trial and deprived her of medical treatment. Tarique Rahman was not allowed to return home. Despite all this oppression, he did not leave the country, he struggled from the soil of the country.

He also said, “He has only given away this country. He has repeatedly taken risks to bring back democracy. Every time we have failed, he has shown us new dreams. But he has left us before we can see that unfinished dream of his fulfilled.”
Mujibur Rahman said that the responsibility of fulfilling Begum Khaleda Zia’s dreams now lies with the party leaders and workers.
“Not individuals, our leader Tarique Rahman and the important sheaf of rice are important. We must forget all differences and work together to ensure the victory of the sheaf of rice.”
Former General Secretary of Kaliakair Upazila BNP Parvez Ahmed presided over the prayer mahfil. Alhaj Kazi Sayedul Alam Babul, Organizing Secretary of BNP’s Dhaka Divisional Committee, was present as the chief guest.
