Vietnam’s 80th National Day Celebrated in Dhaka

The Embassy of Vietnam celebrated the 80th National Day of the country at a city hotel on Sunday (31 August, 2025), bringing together diplomats, business leaders, civil society representatives, and members of the media.

Food and Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumder attended the event as the chief guest and highlighted the growing friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh Nguyen Manh Cuong, in his welcome remarks, announced that aviation authorities of both countries are working closely to launch the first direct Dhaka–Hanoi flight within this year. “With the establishment of the direct flight, our partnership will continue to flourish and contribute greatly to the prosperity of both nations,” he said.

Ambassador Cuong emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people exchanges to deepen the traditional friendship. He recalled the historic support that the people of Bangladesh extended to Vietnam, which, he said, the government and people of Vietnam deeply cherish.

On trade and investment, the envoy noted that bilateral trade has consistently surpassed US$1 billion in recent years, adding that both countries share many similarities in their development journeys that create opportunities for mutual learning and cooperation.

He further said that over the past five decades, the two countries have maintained close ties through regular delegation exchanges and cooperation in bilateral as well as multilateral forums, always supporting each other’s candidature in international organizations. The Embassy in Dhaka, he reaffirmed, would continue to serve as a bridge of friendship and cooperation.

Reflecting on Vietnam’s 80-year journey since 1945, Ambassador Cuong said the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party, have safeguarded independence and sovereignty while striving for prosperity and happiness. Today, Vietnam enjoys diplomatic relations with 194 countries, strategic partnerships with 38 key partners, and plays an active role in ASEAN, APEC, WTO, and the United Nations.
