The two-day International Islamic Finance and Banking Conference, organized by the Central Sharia Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh and the Finance Department of Dhaka University, was inaugurated on 9 January 2026 at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium, Dhaka University. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, PhD, officially inaugurated the conference. The inaugural session was presented by Professor Dr. Mohammad Kabir Hasan, University of New Orleans, USA, and Mohammad Farrukh Reza, Chairman of the Board of Governance and Ethics of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOFI).
The welcome address was delivered by Professor Dr. H.M. Mosharraf Hossain and Acting Secretary General of the Central Sharia Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh Mufti Muhammad Muhidulsnah Baki An-Nadvi. The special guests present at the event were Professor Dr. Abu Bakr Rafiq, Chairman of the Sharia Advisory Board of Bangladesh Bank, and Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Managing Director of United Finance PLC. In addition, internationally renowned scholar Mufti Muhammad Tawki Usmani and Secretary General of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOFI) Omar Mustafa Ansari delivered video messages. The conference convener and Professor of Finance Department of Dhaka University, Dr. Md. Sakidul Islam, expressed his gratitude.
On the first day of the conference, several keynote sessions were held by renowned international scholars from different countries including the UK, USA, Malaysia. In addition, a panel discussion titled “Islamic Finance Education in Bangladesh” was held to exchange important views on curriculum development, research and capacity building.
The two-day conference, held under the theme “Islamic Finance for Sustainable Economic Development”, was attended by banking regulators, Islamic finance professionals, Sharia experts and advisors, policymakers, financial innovators and renowned researchers and academics from home and abroad. On the second day of the conference, Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur will address the audience.
