Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar have acknowledged the existing challenges between the two countries and emphasized working together to address them.
The bilateral meeting was held on the sidelines of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) held in Muscat, the capital of Oman, on Sunday (February 16, 2025). The meeting discussed ways to further strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain highlighted the need to start negotiations for the renewal of the Ganges River Water Sharing Treaty in the meeting. He also emphasized the need to convene a meeting of the Standing Committee of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and sought India’s support.
While discussing various other aspects of bilateral relations, their multiple meetings after the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September 2024 and the Foreign Secretary-level meeting held in Dhaka on December 9 were also mentioned.
This meeting is expected to play an important role in developing the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and India.
