DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali ndc said that on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day on February 21, Dhaka Metropolitan Police has taken several levels of security arrangements at the Central Shahid Minar like every year.
The DMP Commissioner said this while briefing journalists at the Central Shahid Minar premises on Thursday (February 20, 2025) about the security arrangements and traffic plans taken by the DMP on Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day. Earlier, he inspected the various security arrangements taken by the DMP at the Central Shahid Minar.

The DMP Commissioner said, “As you know, this year too, Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day are going to be celebrated tomorrow, i.e. tonight, from 12:01 am. The entire nation will celebrate this day with utmost respect.” Like every year, this time too, VVIPs, VIPs and then the public will pay their respects first. The Palashi Gate of Dhaka University will be opened for the public at approximately 12:40 am. I request everyone to observe proper discipline while placing wreaths at the altar.

He said, the general public gathers a lot in the Shahid Minar premises and there is a lot of crowd while entering the Shahid Minar. We will be vigilant so that no accident occurs in this crowd. Along with this, I humbly request those who will come to take care of their own safety, mobiles, wallets and valuables.
He also said, three/four-level security measures have been taken at the Shahid Minar. A sufficient number of officers and forces of Dhaka Metropolitan Police will be deployed from 5 pm today to 3 pm tomorrow. We do not see any security threat on the occasion of the Ekushey February celebration. The security measures taken by the DMP include metal detectors, installation of archways and general body searches. We will have necessary measures to ensure that no one can enter with flammable materials, explosives or anything like that.

The DMP Commissioner said, you know that a large number of people gather on this day, so everyone has to be patient. Along with this, our various mobile teams will be deployed within a radius of one kilometer around the Shahid Minar.
Regarding the arrangements taken by the Traffic Department on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar, BPM-Seba said, seven points will be closed with road blockers due to the large gathering of people centered around the Shahid Minar. The points are – Shahbagh Crossing, Nilkhet Crossing, Shahidullah Hall Crossing, High Court Crossing, Chankharpul Crossing, Palashi Crossing and Bakshibazar Crossing. The pedestrian route is from Palashi Crossing to Bhaskarya Crossing, Jagannath Hall Crossing to enter the Central Shaheed Minar and after paying homage, you can exit through Romana Crossing-Doyel Chattar Crossing. You will not be able to exit through any other route.

He said that usually the relevant roads are closed at 6 pm. However, this time considering the traffic situation in Dhaka city, we have decided at 8:00 pm. However, the relevant roads will definitely be closed at 9:00 pm. He requested the public to come to pay homage from 12:40 pm.
At that time, DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar, BPM-Service; Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. N. Md. Nazrul Islam, PPM-Service; Joint Police Commissioners, Deputy Police Commissioners and police officers of various ranks were present.
