There will be no shortage of jute seeds: Textile and Jute Advisor

Steps have been taken to eliminate the shortage of quality jute seeds in the current season. As a result, there will be no shortage of seeds, said Sheikh Bashiruddin, Advisor to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

He gave the information during a meeting with the leaders of the Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association at the Advisor’s office in the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday (January 4, 2025).

Jute exporters told the advisor that due to the export of raw jute, many people have started hoarding illegally to destabilize the market. As a result, the price of jute is constantly increasing. Farmers are not benefiting from this, rather hoarders are profiting from it, they are creating chaos in the jute market. If illegal hoarding is not prevented, real jute farmers and everyone involved in the jute business will be affected. Above all, the country will suffer from an economic point of view. The leaders called for taking immediate steps to stop hoarding at this time.

The advisor said that the government will adopt a zero tolerance policy to prevent illegal hoarding of jute. Very soon, legal steps will be taken to prevent hoarding in 4 districts where jute production is high.

Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Bilkis Jahan Rimi, President of Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association Tapas Pramanik, Vice Chairman Faruk Hossain, Board Director Mohammad Shahjahan and Helal Ahmed were present in the meeting.
