Desk Report:
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that there will be no political interference in the financial sector, including related economic sectors. No political appointment or influence of the government will work here; it will be a 100% professional institution. The amount of capital with which the ‘Bangladesh Startup Investment Company’ has started its journey will increase further in the future. It is not just an investment institution, but a platform to make the country’s overall startup ecosystem visible.

The minister said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Bangladesh Startup Investment Company’ organized at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden today, Tuesday (12 May 2026).
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that the two main problems of our young generation are lack of funds and inability to provide collateral. These two obstacles have been removed through this initiative. The investment decision-making process here will be completely transparent, efficient and professional.
The Minister said, this initiative is directly related to our political manifesto. We are working with the goal of creating employment for one crore people by utilizing the demographic dividend benefit. Especially through the creative economy, the youth of rural and urban areas will be brought into the mainstream of the economy.
Regarding restoring discipline in the financial sector, he said, we are currently going through a difficult time. We are moving towards capital market reform and serious deregulation. Skilled people have been appointed as advisors for investment and capital markets. Large domestic and foreign investment management companies and various donor agencies are working with us. We are working to eliminate the under-capitalization of the country’s banks and private sector.
The Finance Minister expressed optimism that this startup company will not be limited to investment in the banking sector only; Rather, it will also encourage international venture capital institutions to invest in Bangladesh. The Ministry of Finance will provide all kinds of policy support for the success of this project. Many banks in the country have jointly taken up this venture capital initiative, which will open new horizons in the economy of Bangladesh.
Md. Mostakur Rahman and A.H. Sarkar spoke at the event, chaired by BSIC Chairman Masrur Arefin.
