The second meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Finance of the 13th National Parliament was held today, Sunday (August 23, 2026) at the National Parliament House under the chairmanship of the Committee Chairman Mushfiqur Rahman, MP.
The meeting placed special emphasis on two important issues. Firstly, emphasis was placed on making the Accounting and Financial Reporting system more transparent, modern and effective. The meeting expressed the opinion that increasing accountability in this regard would further increase the efficiency and effectiveness of work.
Secondly, the need to reduce the dependence on physical contact and introduce digital and automated systems to prevent corruption was highlighted.
It is not enough to simply identify or punish the person involved in corruption; rather, emphasis was placed on changing or removing the process or system through which corruption is being committed. As a result, the expenses and harassment of businessmen will be reduced, the business environment will be easier and at the same time the government’s revenue collection will increase, it was informed in the meeting.
In addition, detailed information was presented by the NBR through a presentation on the NBR’s capacity to manage government expenses, steps taken to reduce the gap in the tax-GDP ratio, and the organizational structure of the NBR and the things to be done. The committee members participated in the discussion on the presented issues.
At the beginning of the meeting, the minutes of the first meeting of the committee were confirmed.
Committee members and Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni, MP, Md. Jalal Uddin, MP, Moinul Islam Khan, MP, Md. Shahadat Hossain, MP, Md. Saiful Alam, MP, Syed Zainul Abedin, MP and Md. Abul Hasnat, MP participated in the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the First Secretary of Tax Policy of the NBR, Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, Secretary of the Finance Division, Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), Chairman and members of the National Board of Revenue, along with senior officials and concerned officials of the National Parliament Secretariat.
