The Project Management Consulting (PMC) services for the Project on Education and Research Capacity Building of National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER) in Bangladesh Officially Launched

Diplomatic Desk:

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has officially launched the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) (2025-2029) for the Project for Education and Research Capacity Building of National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER) in Bangladesh. This project aims to enhance the quality of graduate nursing education and strengthening research capacity in Bangladesh.

The project was designed based on the achievements of the “Establishment of a Graduate School of Nursing in Bangladesh” implemented between 2012 and 2019. Through the first phase, Bangladesh’s first systematic institution for graduate-level nursing education was established. In response to subsequent challenges related to the sustainability of the graduate nursing program, the current phase includes the introduction of a doctoral program in nursing. The second phase of the project focuses on advancing the quality of nursing education and research and improving the research environment to establish a sustainable structure capable of independently nurturing human resources and conducting research.

The project is jointly implemented by the Yonsei University College of Nursing, the Hyundai Research Institute, and the Hanaro Medical Foundation. Through this initiative, the Graduate School of Nursing in Bangladesh is expected to develop into a self-sustaining higher education institution that serves as a central hub for training advanced nursing professionals and conducting research aligned with national health policy priorities. Ultimately, the project is anticipated to contribute to the qualitative improvement of Bangladesh’s health workforce, enhance the professional status of nursing, and support the promotion of public health and the strengthening of the national healthcare system.

To ensure the smooth implementation of the project, a PMC delegation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) visited Bangladeshand held an inception meeting with key stakeholder institutions, including the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division (MEFWD), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MOHFW), the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council(BNMC), the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery(DGNM), and the National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research(NIANER).

During the inception meeting, the PMC shared the project implementation framework and detailed action plans, while clarifyingroles and cooperation mechanisms among participating institutions. The meeting also established a shared understanding of the phased implementation schedule and formally marked the official launch of the project, setting the stage for the full-scale implementation of initiatives aimed at strengthening graduate-level nursing education and research capacity in Bangladesh.
