The “National Citizen Party” officially launched

The National Citizens’ Party was officially launched amid a massive gathering at Manik Miah Avenue in the capital. The formal event began on Friday (February 28, 2025) after 4 PM with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by readings from the Bhagavad Gita, Tripitaka, and the Bible. The attendees stood in unison during the performance of the national anthem, expressing their solidarity.

At the beginning of the event, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the July Uprising. Additionally, everyone was urged to pray for the martyrs according to their respective religious beliefs.

Mim Akter, sister of Shaheed Mohammad Ismail Hossain Rabbi—who was killed during the July-August movement—announced Nahid Islam as the convener and Akhter Hossain as the member secretary of the new political party.

Following this, Akhter Hossain took the stage and announced a partial committee for the newly formed political party. He stated that Samanta Sharmin and Ariful Islam Adib would serve as Senior Joint Conveners, while Dr. Tasnim Jara and Nahida Sarwar would take on the roles of Senior Joint Member Secretaries.

Nasiruddin Patwary was appointed as the Chief Coordinator of the new party, Abdul Hannan Masud as Joint Coordinator, Hasnat Abdullah as Chief Organizer (Southern Region), Sarjis Alam as Chief Organizer (Northern Region), and Salehuddin Sifat as the Office Secretary.

As the party’s top leaders began delivering speeches, enthusiastic reactions were seen among the young attendees. Besides leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens’ Committee, representatives from various political parties also participated in the event.

Earlier, thousands of people from different parts of the country gathered at Manik Miah Avenue, marching with flags in hand. The emergence of this new political party has generated excitement among the youth.

To ensure security and public convenience, arrangements were made for a medical team, temporary restrooms, a police booth, a separate booth for women, a VIP booth, and access to clean drinking water. Law enforcement agencies ensured tight security throughout the event.

Families of the July Uprising martyrs and wounded fighters were also present. Supporters from all 64 districts of the country attended the launch event, signaling significant public interest in this new political force.
