The Italian Ambassador to Dhaka gave a special message in the ‘Special January, 2026 Edition’ of the “Business in Bangladesh Newsletter” on the occasion of the English New Year

I am delighted to present Italy’s wishes for the New Year’s edition of “Business in Bangladesh”.

Bangladesh has gone through a major political transition. It has been a time of change and reform, including in the economic and business sector. Italy plauds to these achievements, which have been well understood by the many Italian small and medium companies operating in the promising Bangladeshi market. I am referring not only to the Italian companies of the traditional textile industry, but also to those active in other sectors in which we see a renewed dynamism, such as agri-food, ceramics, chemicals, leather, steel, design and services.

As often mentioned, diversification is the key word for the economic growth of Bangladesh. I will accompany this pivotal word with other two: confidence and friendship. In 2026 Italy will continue to be a loyal and trustful partner of Bangladesh, as further confirmed by the growing presence in Italy of a large and successful Bangladeshi diaspora acting as a powerful bridge between our people and our respective business communities.

In the past two years Italy-Bangladesh bilateral trade has remained stable. There is considerable room for improvement that we are confident to seize in 2026, also thanks to the high number of official visits, business delegations, B2Bs meetings and other programs that we are planning for next year. In this respect, while pledging support to a smooth Graduation of Bangladesh, Italy looks forward to more efforts by the next Government in dismantling existing ‘Non-Tariff Barriers’ to European products.

We trust that 2026 will witness further reform in order to create a conducive environment for international investors. Please count on Italy’s support also for that.

Let me conclude by wishing all readers of Business in Bangladesh health, prosperity and stability in 2026. I also wish companies of both Italy and Bangladesh to continue to grow and further expand their joint business for the benefit of both countries.
