State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury has emphasized on utilizing the knowledge, skills and international experience of Bangladeshi scientists and researchers working abroad to take the country’s pharmaceutical industry to a stronger position in global competition.
He expressed this opinion as the chief guest at a high-level seminar titled ‘Role of Non-Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) Scientists in Advancing Biotech and Biosimilar Drugs in Bangladesh’s Pharmaceutical Industry’ held at a prestigious hotel in the capital on Wednesday (June 24, 2026).
The State Minister said that Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry has already achieved significant success in the international arena. Now it is time to create new possibilities through more investment and innovation in research-based modern sectors like biotechnology and biosimilar drugs. In this regard, Bangladeshi scientists established abroad can play an important role.
He further said that if effective linkages are established between domestic industrial institutions and research organizations with expatriate researchers, the capacity of Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry will increase manifold. The government is encouraging such initiatives and will continue to provide necessary policy support.
Internationally renowned scientist Professor Dr. M. R. Nasir Uddin presented the keynote address at the seminar jointly organized by Business America Magazine, Orthakantha and NRB World. He said that if the knowledge and research experience of Bangladeshi scientists working in different countries of the world can be linked with the country’s industry and academia, new horizons will be opened in the biotechnology sector.
In his speech as a special guest, Member of Parliament for Magura-1 constituency Md. Monowar Hossain emphasized on ensuring a favorable environment for expatriate Bangladeshis to participate in research and investment in the country. He said that if a research-friendly environment and necessary support are ensured, many talented Bangladeshis living abroad will be interested in contributing to the country.
National Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan said that the media can play an important role in the development of science, research and the pharmaceutical industry. The journalistic community will always be involved in such initiatives.
The event was also addressed by Dr. Shah Md. Aman Ullah, a physician attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Rahima Begum, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and Dr. Parvez Reza Kakon, BNP’s Associate Health Secretary, along with prominent figures from the health and policy-making levels.
At the beginning of the event, Enamul Haque Enam, Managing Editor of Business America Magazine and Orthakantha and Founder of NRB World, and Sumaiya Zaman, Executive Editor of Business America Magazine, delivered welcome speeches.
At the end of the seminar, the cover of a special issue of Business America Magazine was unveiled. At the same time, several distinguished individuals were honored in recognition of their significant contributions to the biotech, research and health sectors.
