Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam’s first visit to Singapore has been welcomed by Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. During the visit, discussions were held on further strengthening the long-standing friendly relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries.
In a message on social media, Vivian Balakrishnan said that Bangladesh and Singapore have a long-standing partnership and close people-to-people contacts. Various areas of bilateral cooperation were discussed in the meeting with Shama Obaid Islam.

The Singaporean Foreign Minister said that particular importance has been given to expanding trade and strengthening the energy partnership between the two countries.
He also said that significant progress has been made in concluding a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) between Bangladesh and Singapore. If this agreement is implemented, it is expected to create new opportunities for business and investment in both countries.
Vivian Balakrishnan expressed hope that the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh will visit Singapore to be fruitful and successful and wished him all the best for his visit.
The concerned parties believe that this visit of Shama Obaid Islam will play an important role in deepening the existing relations between the two countries and opening new doors for trade, energy and business cooperation.
