The best way to get rid of drugs can be to increase participation in sports: Business Advisor

Business Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said, sports are one of the ways to enjoy life. It teaches us leadership. Along with perseverance and tolerance, it creates the mindset to accept defeat and victory.

He said this as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 6th National Women’s Baseball Championship 2025 at the Riya Gop Women’s Sports Complex ground in Dhanmondi on Thursday (October 30) morning.

The advisor said, drugs have emerged as a terrible problem for our young society at present. The best way to get rid of it can be to increase participation in sports. Young people need to focus more on sports. For this, we need playgrounds – we need to create an environment for them to play. He called on everyone to take initiative to keep the youth free from the death trap of drugs.

Baseball is the second most popular game in the world. However, it is new to us. As a nation, we have adopted many new sports. Mentioning that baseball will also gain popularity someday, the advisor said, “I have seen baseball in Hollywood movies. I saw that it brings families together and unites emotions.” He expressed hope that by getting used to this sport, our youth will benefit as well as the country’s respect in the world.

The program was presided over by Afzalur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Baseball – Softball Association. Additional IGP (Admin) Kazi Md. Fazlul Karim, Director (Sports and Culture) of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Mirza Sifat-e-Khuda, Senior Vice Chairman of South Asian Baseball and Softball Association Professor Dr. Anupam Hossain and General Secretary of Bangladesh Softball and Baseball Association Talha Zubayer were present as special guests.

A total of 12 teams are participating in the championship organized by the Bangladesh Baseball – Softball Association. The final game of the competition will be held on November 1.
