Desk Report:
State Minister for Land Mir Mohammad Helal has said that corruption in the land ministry will be reduced to ‘one digit’ within the next six months through a special campaign.
The State Minister expressed this determination in response to questions from journalists at an Eid reunion program organized at the State Minister’s residence ‘Dalia Kunje’ on Chatteshwari Road in Chittagong city.
The State Minister said that land offices are being brought under complete automation. If the human cashless system or system without direct money transactions is fully implemented, corruption and harassment of owners in land work will be completely reduced.
The State Minister also said that if the automation system is introduced, land owners will no longer have to physically visit the office to pay record papers or land development tax. Citizens will be able to complete the work of registration and deposit-rejection online from home.
Expressing regret over the land services in Chittagong, the State Minister said that currently most of the land offices in Chittagong do not have the desired services. The government is working to modernize the quality of e-services in every union land office in the country.
Citing the example of Hathazari Land Office, he said that no cash transactions are made there. Similarly, if the entire system is automated, it will be possible to make the land offices corruption-free.
Mir Helal clearly said that the people of Bangladesh want radical changes in land management. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is in a ‘zero tolerance’ position in this regard.
The State Minister instructed all the officials and employees of the ministry to play a strict role against corruption in implementing this directive of the Prime Minister.
Local dignitaries and media workers were present at the event.
