Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that sports will be evaluated based on merit and skill. The current government is determined to keep the country’s sports free from politics. He urged the countrymen to dream big and said that the time has come to illuminate the sports field like a new sunrise.
The minister said these things at a view-exchange meeting with the newly elected board of directors of the club at the traditional Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited premises in Motijheel in the capital on Tuesday (March 31, 2026). Prime Minister’s Political and Industrial Advisor Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque and Mohammedan Sporting Club President Md. Barkat Ullah Bulu were present at the time.
The minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government is working to establish sports as a profession. He also mentioned that various initiatives are being taken so that players can take it up as a profession.
Speaking as the chairman of the meeting, Mohammedan Sporting Club President Md. Barkat Ullah Bulu said that by keeping the club free from politics, opportunities will be increased for talented players and transparency will be ensured in the sports arena.
Prime Minister’s Political Advisor Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said that the government is working for proper evaluation of talented and skilled players. In the future, evaluation will be ensured on the basis of merit and skill in the sports arena.
At the same time, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque said that everyone should work together to rise above politics and advance the country’s sports.
