On March 31, 2026, the 55th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence was celebrated with due dignity and deep respect at the Russian House in Dhaka, which was organized in collaboration with the Liberation War Academy Trust.

The event began with a minute’s silence in memory of the martyrs of the great Liberation War. At the same time, deep respect was paid to the Soviet Navy for its historic role in removing mines from the ports of Chittagong and Mongla, which made an important contribution to the reconstruction of Bangladesh after independence.

While speaking at the event, Alexandra A. Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, mentioned the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Russia. She highlighted the important assistance of the Soviet Union during the Liberation War and their continued contribution to the development of Bangladesh in the post-independence period.
