Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Becomes Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s Asia-Pacific Group

Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad (Bir Bikram), formally assumed the role of Chair of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) on Monday (October 5, 2026). He took over the responsibility from the Speaker of Bhutan, Tempa Dorji.

The Asia-Pacific Group comprises 37 member countries. It is expected that this appointment will further strengthen Bangladesh’s representation in the international parliamentary arena.

Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat—who is currently visiting Tanzania with the parliamentary delegation led by the Speaker—confirmed the matter in a press release today.
