Spanish Ambassador Gabriel Sistiaga paid a courtesy call on Bangladeshi Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram MP.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram said that the bilateral relations between Spain and Bangladesh are very excellent and friendly. The European Union is the second largest export destination of Bangladesh. He said that the Spanish government can make a significant contribution to the economic growth of Bangladesh by increasing foreign investment in Bangladesh.
The Speaker said that the last national parliamentary elections held in Bangladesh were free, participatory and fair. He said that various countries of the world, including the European Union, have contributed to the progress of restoring democracy by making these elections acceptable by sending election observation teams.
During the meeting, both of them laid special emphasis on the need for increased foreign investment by the European Union in Bangladesh after Bangladesh’s transition to a middle-income country. They also exchanged views on establishing people-to-people relations with the people of the two countries, ready-made garment exports, LNG and the energy crisis.
The Speaker sought the support of the Spanish government in nominating the Foreign Minister of the Bangladesh government for the post of President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Ambassador congratulated him on being elected as the Speaker of the National Parliament.
Senior officials of the Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat were present at the event.
