The two-day Sixth Young Scientist Congress began on Saturday (April 4, 2026) at the National Science and Technology Complex in Agargaon in the capital. The congress, to be held on April 4-5, 2026, has been organized by the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences with the theme ‘Young Scientists for Artificial Intelligence’. At this event, the country’s young scientists will highlight research, innovation and potential in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

Minister for Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam was present as the chief guest at the event.

In his speech as the chief guest, the minister said that the ‘Sixth Young Scientist Congress’ organized with the participation of young scientists will further accelerate the country’s scientific progress. He mentioned that in the current world, science and technology are not only the driving force of economic development, but also one of the foundations of national security, sustainable development and human welfare.

He also said that the government is working to build a knowledge-based and innovation-dependent Bangladesh. To this end, emphasis is being placed on expanding STEM education, transforming research into the market, increasing investment in modern technology including artificial intelligence, and strengthening the startup ecosystem.

The minister said to the young scientists, you will be the leaders of the future. You have to play an important role in the development of the country through research, innovation and creativity. He also called for using the knowledge and experience acquired after pursuing higher education abroad for the benefit of the country. He expressed optimism and said that the government will continue to provide all-round support for the development of the science and technology sector.

Speaking as a special guest, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Md. Anwar Hossain said that the Ministry of Science and Technology has taken the initiative to establish a national AI institute by prioritizing artificial intelligence in the country. Emphasis is being placed on integrated policies and research to ensure data security, management and its effective use in agriculture, education, health and industry. At the same time, work is underway to develop STEM education, nano and biotechnology and semiconductor sectors. He emphasized on connecting innovation with the market through the ‘Innovation to Market’ initiative.

Speaking as a special guest, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed said, today we are in the era of the fourth industrial revolution, where artificial intelligence is changing our lives and workplaces. Young scientists of Bangladesh are the main driving force of this change.

Various sessions, research presentations, panel discussions and technology exhibitions will be held in the congress. Representatives from various universities, research institutions and technology-related organizations of the country are participating in it.

The inauguration ceremony of the 6th Young Scientist Congress 2026 was presided over by Professor Dr. ZN Tahmida Begum, Vice President of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. The welcome address was delivered by the Chairperson of the 6th Young Scientist Congress, Major General (Retd) Professor Dr. ASM Matiur Rahman. The Secretary of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir, delivered the opening speech of the program.

The program was attended by teachers and researchers from various universities of the country, young scientists, students and experts in related fields.
