Saidabad Water Treatment Plant: Denmark Commends Dhaka WASA for High-Quality Maintenance

Lars Bo Bertram, CEO of Denmark’s Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), has praised Dhaka WASA for its high-quality maintenance of the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant. The plant, supported by Denmark, has been operating for over 20 years with zero downtime, marking a remarkable achievement.

A high-level delegation from IFU, led by Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller, recently visited the plant. IFU is also financing the design and construction of Phase III of the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant.

The Phase III project is being jointly funded by Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, and the Government of Bangladesh. Denmark has committed USD 300 million to this phase, including approximately USD 100 million in grants.

Aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, the expansion of the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant will significantly enhance access to clean water, benefiting up to 6 million people in Dhaka.
