The government has reconstituted the board of directors of the national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh formed a new 13-member board through a notification issued on April 25.
Rumi A. Hossain has been appointed as the chairman of this board, formed in accordance with the ‘The Companies Act, 1994’ and the ‘Articles of Association’ of the company. He is serving as the sponsor director and chairman of the board executive committee of Bank Asia PLC. He has three decades of experience in the banking and corporate sectors.
Other members of the new board of directors include Finance Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Majumder, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Fahmida Akhtar, Assistant Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanvir Khan, Engineer-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Army Major General Md. Hasan Uz Zaman, Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim, Chairman and CEO of Policy Exchange Bangladesh M. Masrur Riaz, Chairman of United Commercial Bank Sharif Zahir, Vice Chairman of DBL Group Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Additional Managing Director of Index Companies Md. Mamunur Rashid, Barrister Khairul Alam Chowdhury, Professor of Dhaka University Abu Naser Ahmed Ishtiaq and ex-officio Managing Director and CEO of Biman Kaiser Sohel Ahmed.
The first meeting of the newly formed board of directors was held today (April 26) at Balaka Bhaban in Dhaka. The meeting discussed in detail Biman’s overall operations, financial management, service quality improvement, fleet expansion, security enhancement and future strategic plans. It is reported that several important policy decisions were also taken.
Those concerned hope that under the leadership of this new board, which is composed of talent, experience and professional skills, Biman Bangladesh Airlines will create a stronger position in the global arena as a modern, self-reliant and international standard airline.
