Rewards will be given if weapons lost by law enforcement agencies are found – Home Affairs Advisor

A reward will be given if weapons lost by law enforcement agencies are found, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.).

The advisor made this statement while briefing reporters after the meeting of the Law and Order Core Committee at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday (August 10, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said, “We have taken a special initiative to recover the weapons lost by law enforcement agencies. Those who can find the weapons lost by law enforcement agencies will be rewarded. A committee in this regard will be formed soon, which will be informed to the media later.” He said at the time that approximately 700 weapons of law enforcement agencies are still to be recovered.

Regarding the murder of journalist Tuhin in Gazipur, the advisor said, “The incident is very sad. No one in society can even think that such an incident could happen.” He said, we have become very intolerant as a nation. Earlier, when something bad happened in society, people would jump in to prevent it. But nowadays, that has decreased a lot. Now everyone makes videos. Preventing crime is our moral responsibility. He also said, law enforcement officers are not always present everywhere. At that time, the public should primarily prevent or prevent crime. The advisor said that most of those involved in the Gazipur incident have been brought under the law.

Regarding the recovery of 1,100 domestic weapons from New Market, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, those who make these weapons should be more careful. They know who is using them. Those who are doing this have been brought under the law.

In response to a question from journalists whether there will be violence in the next national elections, the advisor said, the responsibility of fair, free and impartial elections is not only the law enforcement agencies. The political parties participating in the election, the Election Commission, the administration, the law enforcement agencies and above all the people are involved in this. Hopefully, we will be able to provide a free, fair and impartial election. The advisor informed about the decision to deploy an additional Ansar member (gunman) with weapons for the security of the Presiding Officer in the next National Parliament election.

The advisor also informed that the 4-day (25-28 August) 56th Border Conference at the Director General level between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) of India will begin on 25 August 2025 at the BGB Headquarters in Peelkhana, Dhaka.

Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on Home Affairs Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud, PSC, and others were present during the briefing.
